Katherine Anne Porter Society
I served as president of the Katherine Anne Porter Society from 2013-2019. The purpose of the Society, founded in 1993, is to assist and coordinate Katherine Anne Porter studies through the Society’s general meetings, and other special conferences, the Society’s Web site, and other activities approved by the Society. The year 2015 was an exciting one for Katherine Anne Porter scholars. It saw the publication of Thomas Austenfeld’s edited collection titled Katherine Anne Porter’s Ship of Fools: New Interpretations and Transatlantic Contexts, which includes beautifully written essays on Porter’s only novel. That year also witnessed the revival of the Society’s newsletter. I was fortunate to be the editor of the 15th volume, which covers the years 2008-2014, and of the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th volumes. For more information about the Society, and to read all 23 volumes of the newsletter, please visit kaportersociety.org. Society for the Study of American Women Writers In 2019, I was appointed to serve a three-year term as Vice President of Membership and Finances of the Society for the Study of American Women Writers (SSAWW), an international organization “established in 2000 to promote and advance the study of American women writers through research, teaching, and publication.” Its goal is “to strengthen relations among persons and institutions both in the United States and internationally who are undertaking such studies, and to broaden knowledge widely among the general public about American women writers.” In this executive role, I kept track of the Society’s 500+ members, provided financial reports to the President and Advisory Board, and maintained and distributed the Society’s funds as required for conference costs, routine expenses, and other approved expenditures.
